A tribe, as the book defines it, is simply any group of people connected to each other, to a leader, and to an idea. Long before modern organizations existed, humans organized themselves into tribes — around religions, causes, hobbies, and communities — because belonging to, and following, a tribe is a deep and enduring human instinct. What's changed is not the instinct itself, but the number and variety of tribes now available for anyone to join or lead.
